"The First Name in Quarter Scale"
In late 1984, after a year or so of R&D, a gentleman from the little town of Buffalo, Texas took several examples of a Quarter Scale, Radio/Controlled replica of a World of Outlaws-type Sprint Car to the annual Hobby show in Pasadena, CA. There, he found his display inundated by folks fascinated with the concept of such a large R/C car. Further, they were even more interested when he "fired-one-up" and they were treated to the sound of the big (relatively) two-stroke single engine that powered the car. A quick, on-the-floor demo of the car's response to inputs from the radio in his hand convinced many in the audience that "these should sell like hot-cakes"-- and Carroll Cheek, now known as the "Grandfather" of Quarter Scale, returned to Texas with orders in hand, and the new, largest scale of R/C race cars was born!
The new company known as Winner's Circle Manufacturing or WCM, grew and prospered.
WCM Racing is the largest and oldest manufacturer of quarter scale radio controlled cars. They specialize in stock cars, sprint cars, east coast modifieds, parts and accessories. WCM is often credited with helping to start quarter scale, but there are a number of quality options when it comes to chassis choice, JR Racing, TNT and Pro1 to name a few. Each brand offers the racer something different in both driving experience and construction. One of the many positives of quarter scale racing is that there is no "must have" chassis as there is in other segments of competitive RC. On any given day at the track, any of the different chassis can be equally fast if set up and driven well. There are numerous accounts of racers successfully campaigning and winning races in 15+ year old cars. In quarter scale it’s up to you to make your car fast, it’s not who spends the most on the latest widgets. Go to the track, talk to racers and decide for yourself which brand is right for you, maybe it’s a WCM, maybe it’s not, but either way the folks at WCM will be glad to help a fellow racer any way they can.
