1993 Raco Stadium truck, Project truck

Post by Scottsmith »

I'm super stoked, last night I just picked up a '93 Raco stadium truck, from what I can tell it's never been ran, doesn't even have the servos installed, near mint condition, truck. the body's never been painted the tires have no wear, just some dry cracking from age. put gas in it, primed it 3x, and it started on the second pull. sounds great.

I've got two Q's, Approx, how much would this be worth, (a) in it's current condition, (b) cleaned and polished up with a painted original body and the servos installed and RTR?

and how hard would it be to convert this to a F-1 Style body, the general shape of the frame, the wide tires (with aftermarket slicks), and short suspenion travel would be perfect for F-1, except the front shock towers might be in the way, but I've got a 1/10 scale 4wd stadium truck and monster truck (traxxas slash and Tmaxx) and I just cant picture this low ground clearance and short suspension being a high speed offroad truck, I wouldn't mind having a screaming high pitched F-1 car though.

here's what I'm interested in, fixing this up to near original condition, with the F-1 conversion if possible, OR possibly finding someone interested in a nearly brand new condition project truck, that has a completed F-1 car that they might be willing to trade or haggle with. someone that likes to build and restore and work on stuff as much as I like to Drive R/C

I'll try to post some pics of the truck soon

sounds like an awesome find there! Funky monk here has done a very nice conversion on one of these, raising the ground clearance. However, with quarter scale its a bit different than other scales. This scale is really built to be driven to scale. So say a 1ft jump would be equivalent to a 4ft jump in real life with a full size truck.

Putting a f1 body on it will not really be a possibility. The ones available wont fit it.

Value depends on current market and buyer. Right now, i dont know if it would sell for more then $700. But when the market goes back up a mint condition one, i would expect $1300-$1500.

what kind of conversion did he do, i got to looking closer and i saw that an F-1 conversion truly isn't feasible. And don't worry I never had any intention of running this in anyway similar to my tenth scale race truck or my T-maxx, which is partly why I'm looking into putting a car body on it. I was now thinking that I'd like to go with a Sports car, or muscle car body, I like the overall design of the chassis it's just that with the overall design, I'd like to see it as a car, maybe a dodge charger, or dodge or plymouth Daytona. I think it's long and thin enough that it would make a nice '68 or '69 charger and the ground clearance would be perfect. I think its too long to make a good camaro or cuda. any ideas from anybody thats made any good '60s or '70s muscle car conversions.

Please don't slap me away from the table, but I'd also be willing to trade for a baja 5T from hpi, or a dollar amount around that of what would be needed to purchase one new. That is if I can't find a body for a late '60s dodge charger. So if anyone has any info on locating such body, or similar era muscle car body, the info would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather keep this stadium truck and fix it up and just put an aftermarket body on it, but if I can't I wouldn't mind having a more modern (granted slightly smaller) truck that I can easily get parts for and not have to worry as much about oh no I broke something that hasn't been made in nearly 20 years.

I know from some of my posts it may seem that I don't care about my stadium truck, (i.e. Wanting to change the body, or trade it off for something else.) but I really do, I want to see it be fixed up and ready to run for the first time in it's life. I want to know that, like a proper classic car, it's not just put on display but actually taken out and driven, put through it's paces but all the while it's preserved condition being top priority to the driver. So whether that's in my hands with a different body, or in someone's hands that can do it better justice than I can. I definately want to stay large scale, just waiting for the course of event to help me determine which direction I go.

Search user funkymonk . He did a wheel and cage conversion. Very nice!! If you want to bash offroad, the hpi is a better choice. The raco truck chassis is almost the same as their cars. Converting to onroad would be easy. Ther are really no muscle car bodies available...
