FORUM WENT DOA?????

Post by bertsboat »

Whats happened here? Not much activity anymore. Could it be the competition?
When I first came on here a few year ago there was something new every day, now, nothing.
Anyone else see what I do??

I've been noticing this for awhile now. The price and availablility has just driven most people away. We are a small group already but its been getting smaller all the time.

I check the forum every day and have been reclcitrant with my postings as well. I have a couple of good Tips and a Project in Progress. I will try to get them posted soon.

Maybe it will spark some discussions.

I check in from time to time, but haven't done any new projects since the "Early Camaro Body" debacle... very discouraging. Definitely lost the fire after that.

But it kinda backed up what I thought the size of the Q-scale hobby was, pretty small, and with the current few manufacturers (almost extinct), getting "rarer" all the time. I just am not really all that excited about the "basis" for the hobby now being scouring eBay daily for antique model car parts. Might as well be collecting porcelain dolls or antique glassware. Ho-hummmm.

It's like the late stages of a card game, it starts with ten guys with $50 each, it ends up with two guys with $250 each. Most of the good stuff is pretty much spoken for, I believe.

Guys, I know what you are talking about, but you cant base a hobby off the amount of posts. The world is much larger then a forum. :)

I have personally stopped posting for the most part about q.scale. That actually represents a lot of the missing topics. On average, i posted 30 times more then the typical member. Posting pictures of scores, questions, interesting stories strikes up great conversations. But i have moved to other interests. I still love this hobby and continue to collect and build. I just dont post it anymore as i just want to enjoy life. :)

I still get lots of emails every week from new people wanting to get in the hobby, asking for help, parts or just to say HI! We also still get over 5000 unique IP addresses looking at the site as a whole every month. The interest is out there, people love this stuff.

It took me a very long time to learn something. I had a problem. I had to buy everything i saw q.scale. Every free moment was spent on finding those cars and parts, collecting, building, working deals, researching. It consumed my life. My house was over filled. I had overstock at my stores hidden in rafters and storage areas. At one point i had over 200 cars and nearly 400k worth of cars, parts and tooling.... You know what? After i liquidated a large portion of my collection (still have way more then the average wacko) and spread out my interests and time across MANY interests... I have way more fun with LIFE!!! Not to mention I have WAY more expendable income. Right now is the best time in our families life. We are very blessed.

Everything is good for you in moderation. :)

Aw man, why did you have to bring the voice of REASON into it? This is where some of us get away from things that have to be logical, heh. But I know what ya mean, I used to be that way with motorcycles until I decided I wasnt running a museum, and nobody cared what was in my garage. NObody. Doesn't stop me looking for a particularly nice piece though

Cheers
