Body and Paint

Post by Domb1972 »

Sorry to be a bug but can someone give me info on painting my GN body Its not lexan and its not fiberglass its like a plastic and its painted on the outside. can I just take 320 wet/dry sand paper to it then primer and paint? What type of paint would I use ? I thought about auto paint but this plastic needs to flex on impact right? so I would need to use a flex agent in the auto paint? Or is there a single stage I can use that works on these plastic bodies? The shop started giving me the run around and lame excuses and messing with the original estimate, So I decided I would paint it myself. I have a air compressor and paint gun and I have alittle experience with laying paint on real cars .

I know I could take my body to the paint shop and they would sell me waht I needed but going in blind they will try and sell me the TOP SHELF MOST EXSPENSIVE PAINT, Harder,Reducer so would like to go in to buy with alittle knowledge.

Also what would I use to patch up holes in the plastic like where the old mounts were?
Thanks Dom

This is my 3rd time trying to answer so here's the shot version Krylon paint for plastic or automotive paint and JB Weld for the holes.

krylon has primer. I tried to write earlier that I used Krylon or a automotve paint from a spray can with no problems of paint coming off from flexing. And you can get a nice shine after buffing. As for the holes I used JB Weld to fill missing pieces someone cut from the bulkhead . If you look under the tip section I have pic.

Thanks !! I think I am gonna go with the Krylon Fushion for plastic paint they have the yellow I need and the blue it bonds to the molicules in the plastic. and from what I see on the net you can get a pretty good shine :D

Thanks again Dom
