New to 1/4 scale, info on my truck please?

Hi, I just purchased a 1/4 scale truck today and I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on it. Someone told me they believe its based off a new era models truck, the engine runs good I ran it a little tonight. My plans are to redo all the electronics, and go over the whole truck and freshen it up... however all it needs to run properly now I think is the steering linkage looked at it has alot of slop and servos only work good when wheels are off ground. Any info is greatly appreciated, Id really like to restore this truck.
Thanks,
-Ted

thats a QRS truck. An old one too. You can tell the age by the rear. Thats the first type of rear he built. The new era trucks were actually based off the QRS trucks.

Check out the QRS section on the legends portion of the site.

NICE find!

Hey thanks, I checked that out. Are any parts avaliable? The steering linkage is the only issue keeping me from running it right now, Im not sure what its suspossed to work like never had anything with dual servos ( all ive had are 10th scales ) Also what do you think I should do with it Im thinking of tearing the whole thing apart and going over it? Im for sure going to put new electronics in, but if I can get parts I might go all out. Just from running it around even with no steering I can see how much fun it will be, you can see all the suspension moving so much more than in smaller scales.
Thanks
-Ted

Yeah I saw that they do look like they are longer, Im going to tear the truck apart anyone have any siguestions on what type of gas tank to use or anything else you see thats been changed up on this truck? I know it has extra bars put in, Im not sure what to do about them I guess just leave them in and strip the frame of its paint and start over. Also im looking for front steering parts along the way.
Thank you,
Ted

Thank you, that looks great. What kind of wheels and tires are you using? Mine are thick foam, and they are chipping apart... not to the point that I wouldnt run it like that but Id like to find wheels and tires that take air lol

Hi TrackerTed,
I’ll have some front end parts finished for you next week. I’m making you some idler arms, a center link, tie rods, spacers, and a drag link. You’ll need to get some new rod ends for the parts. You can get them from McMaster Carr. (http://www.mcmaster.com/ )
Here’re the parts number for the ones like what’s on the truck now.
10-32 Right hand thread, 60645K111 and 10-32 Left hand thread, 60645K112

I’ve been using what I think is a step above the stock ones. The part number for those is
10-32 Right hand thread, 2458K111 and 10-32 Left hand thread, 2458K112

I have a pile of the left hand nuts for the rod ends so I’ll send you some of those with the parts.

They also have the bottles that are used for the gas tank for under $3.00. The part number for the 8oz bottle is 4293T77. It measures 2” x 3” x 4 5/8”.

Check out the nuts and bolts, they have a great selection.

The only requirement is that you post pictures of your progress.

Thank you so much Cryo-tek that is an unbelievable amount of help. How many rod ends do I need just 4 total right 2 of each? I'll PM you my adress, just let me know what I owe you and I'll be sure to post pictures up Im so excited to get it going. Debating on how to strip frame, have access to a sandblaster but I also think these little '' gasket strippers " that mechanics use ( look like brillo pad grinding wheels ) would work just fine? Im going to put all new bolts on it, I dont think anything is threaded into frame should be good to nut and bolt everything. Also what do you guys use for throttle/brake linkage? I think whats on this is to thin looks like it will bend.
Thanks again,
Ted

I made these tonight. The idler arms still need some bronzes bushings made and pressed in. It’s a start.

All that's left are the screws. I want to cut down some long screws with shoulders. I want the shoulder to ride in the center link not the threads.

Well the parts are finished. They turned out OK!
The first picture is what you will receive. :? The nuts are left hand thread. One extra incase you drop one. The other pictures show how it goes together. :o Well almost, the tie rod on the left is backwards. I put the left hand threads outboard. The end with the left hand thread has the grove cut in it. One more thing, the tie rods in the last picture are not yours. :P

Good luck, have fun with your truck. Please post pictures of your progress.
