Please help identify this car

Post by steve g »

My Father got into racing Quarter scale sprints in the late 80s, His first 2 cars were Alves sprints (sorry if i am spelling it wrong)
Then he moved on and bought 2 Delara sprints.
One thing about my Father was he had no reservations about cutting up a car to make it the way he wanted... i even remember my 10th scale R/c cars being so modified that stock parts wouldnt even interchange in many cases. But his ideas proved to work because everyone would copy what he did, or ask him to do it for them.
I know one of the Alves cars was destroyed due to a full throttle parking lot pole collision and one Delara was stolen.
Im trying to find out if this is the other Delara my Father radically modified ... I can tell by all the wear and road rash this is the one he raced with QSAC and it has traveled all over the west coast.
All help or opinions are appreciated.
Steve

Steve:

Thanks for posting the pictures. I think this is a Delara sprint car.

Thank you for your time.
I compared it to some Delara cars in the internet and its obvious my father has modified it quite a bit.
Sorry but the car is not for sale.

I went ahead and took it apart , restored the frame and painted it black. I thought the frame was too busy looking to paint a bright color, I cleaned and scrubbed everything else and started to put it all back together.... it’s mostly all the same parts as it’s last race 30 years ago. Only parts i replaced was the paint, all the nerf bars, one radius rod, a bunch of zip ties and a bolt or two. I have no intentions of making this car anywhere close to perfect as it’s been a real race car since the day it was purchased. I will post more pics when it’s all done.
Chances are nobody will know what I’m talking about, but this is the car that caused a bunch of issues about exposed flywheels after a serious injury at racers haven in Bakersfield in the early 90s...

Everything back together... throttle brake and steering all work... using the same battery from 1992!! Don’t worry I won’t trust the battery.
Just need to pick 4 of its wheels from its racing days, paint body and build a new wing.

Thank you,
This car has a long history, it was raced from day one and has endless modifications done to it. When I restored it I left many of the flaws to keep part of its history.. the frame was tremendously worn and repaired. I did lots of welding, lead and body filler work on the frame just to make it look acceptable. The body is not perfect and never will be.. but I would never want it any other way .

Between perfection and patina, I'll go with patina every time!

Some progress on the paint..... I was going to use the foam wing but I think I will make a polished aluminum one instead
