Been looking for one of these
Been looking for one of these
Finally got my hands on an old chain drive wcm grand national... I happened to have this old raco body that fits perfect but in desperate need of repair ... this will be a fun project down the road
Re: Been looking for one of these
steve g; This is nice! When you repair the body, be sure to keep the patina!
Re: Been looking for one of these
getting painted today.... the body needed tremendous repairs (pics in tips and tricks section) but luckily I was at least able to salvage the 30+ year old silver paint used on the windows. I’m going with a similar color scheme but I need to add some yellow to match the frame.
Re: Been looking for one of these
steve g: The grand national looks good.
Re: Been looking for one of these
Came out better than expected... at least no new cracks yet
Re: Been looking for one of these
steve g: Wonderful result! Did you use spray cans?

Re: Been looking for one of these
It’s painted with PPG Envirobase waterborne paint with urethane clear. The original paint was done in R/M lacquer over 30 years ago and is prone to reacting to solvent based products... the waterborne will not react to lacquer . The silver paint on the windows is original, not perfect but adds character. I pinstriped the edges in with enamel and a brush. The remainder of the paintwork will be done with spray cans now that it has a solid foundation

Re: Been looking for one of these
Went and did a paint scheme similar to original , still need to do a few finishing touches, little rough around the edges.
The orange and black was applied with duplicolor engine paint... it dries lightening fast, easy to repair, brush touch up and can be hand rubbed to a good shine.

The car has turned out extremely well, I love the new paint finish. I like the idea of the Duplicolor engine paint that can be brush touched up. Would it be possible to paint a 1/4 scale car body with this paint using only a brush, and wet sand out the brush strokes with fine grit paper? I ask because I don't have anywhere to spray paint.

I don’t think brushing will work very well, plus the dry time will be much slower.Kaye wrote: ↑January 16th, 2022, 6:55 am steve g:

Keep in mind that you if you dump a quart of paint on the floor or if you spray it out of a gun the smell is still there... I lived in an apartment and used to do all my spray paint work at 2:00-3:00am.. small fan and a homemade spray booth.. never had a complaint .

I have a beautiful and expensive hardwood floor in there. I suppose I could make myself a 'spray tent' or maybe even buy one big enough.Kaye wrote: ↑January 16th, 2022, 6:55 am steve g:

Re: Been looking for one of these
Polished the wheels, reconditioned the original tires and some new white lettering
Re: Been looking for one of these
Like new!
Re: Been looking for one of these
I like the lug nuts, more realistic.
