Question about WCM sprint cars.

Post by steve g »

Hello, I have very little knowledge about WCM sprint cars and I’m trying to find out how to identify roughly what year a car might be. The ones I’m looking at are chain drive with a small chain running the clutch assembly . That’s the only thing I see what really stands out... anything else to help identify a year WCM?
Thank you.

steve g:

I've seen WCM sprint cars with the following configurations:

1. Chain driving a sprocket in the middle of the rear axle.
2. Belt driving a gear in the middle of the rear axle.
3. Belt driving a gear adjacent to the left rear wheel, i.e., a sidewinder.

I'm not an expert in this model car, but I suspect configuration #1 to be the initial type offered for sale. I suspect configuration #2 was the next, followed by configuration #3.

Yes it’s chain for sure, im 99% confident they are WCM.. for such a popular car I can’t find any specifics to tell me what year a car is produced.

steve g: One way of finding out would be to track down magazine articles about WCM from back in the day, to see what the various configurations were in a particular timeframe. Just an idea,

The oldest magazine article I have for WCM is 1989 and it’s already a belt drive by then ... I bought them up anyway, one complete and one pretty well stripped .. I will post pics when they arrive
