1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Did some more prep work, these are the plates that everything is going to be welded and fastened to along with the, what I'm calling the spinal cord at the bottom welded to the plates making the load bearing skeletal chassis . Hope you enjoy

Emilio: You have a lot of time invested in this project!

Yes Kaye to say the least. I'm taking my time on this one but I think the concept will start to be a realization pretty soon. Also much to cold to work in the garage for long periods at a time
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Hey folks, I received my heim joints and aluminum rod stock which need to be cut to length, drilled and tapped for the rear torsion bars. In the mean time I'm printing the windscreen cowl and working on a driver which I'll call Jim Clark. The driver will have a full fabric suit, helmet and goggles. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks Mike and thank you for the package, received it in perfect condition.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Finished printing the the upper body part that the windscreen gets attached to. I printed it at a high speed rate which pronounces more layer lines oppose to slower speeds with more detail and less layer lines and less sanding and prep work, but I am very impatient. If I need to I can print it slower but will see how this looks after I paint it. Anyway, I filled in all the imperfections that come with faster speed prints with body filler, sanded and gave it 2 coats of prime. Next I will do the steering wheel and scale the driver to a perfect size. Hope you enjoy

The spine or backbone chassis is a 'very Lotus' thing to do (Elite, Elan??). A great Lotus tribute!
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
I always liked them chassis Kaye. In addition to my lotus chassis there will be threaded rods that extend to the plates bolted in place sandwiching the center body.
Re: 1/4 scale Lotus 49 Jim Clark version
Did some modification to the drivers neck and arms to properly fit between the seat and steering wheel and to have a straight line of sight. Also did some more work on the upper body cowl. When the filler hardens I will sand everything smooth. Hope you enjoy.

Looking good. How do you like that new printer?

Thanks Mike, the Qidi X-plus printer imo is the best experience you'll get out of the box and the prints are outstanding. I'm printing at faster speeds to do quick prototyping and mock ups, but the final detail will be at higher resolution and slower speeds. Here's a mock up of the driver with his helmet and goggles.

Anyone who is just starting out with 3D printing like me, everything is new. Like this product XTC-3D. The speed bump in 3D printing are the layer lines that are associated with the prints, some folks like the layer lines because it has a distinction and signature but many like me prefer a smooth finish with very minimal sanding involved. From what I gathered, this XTC can be applied with one or multiple coats to achieve a desired finish. Once applied and cured, it provides extra strength and a gel-coat like finish which can be prepped with 1500 wet sandpaper or left alone. I will be posting my results towards the end of the project painted. Hope you find this helpful
